After a week in the dark or on generator power, with visitors barred from the island, Cape Hatteras is welcoming visitors back with open arms after the Outer Banks blackout.

"The blackout struck Hatteras and Ocracoke islands at about 4:30 a.m. Thursday, July 27, when a crew from PCL Construction damaged underground power lines on the northern tip of Hatteras Island while working on the new Bonner Bridge, cutting off power to both islands. Crews worked through the week to excavate the two damaged power cables and erect a new overhead line to restore power to the islands."
